National Alliance on Mental Illness of Delaware and Morrow Counties encourages mental illness awareness

The Morrow County Sentinel - 9/29/2016

On Oct. 7 the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Delaware and Morrow Counties will hold a mental health awareness event at the Main Street Delaware First Friday event from 6 - 9 p.m.

One volunteer will dress in an elephant mascot costume and others with elephant ears to bring attention to the need to talk about the elephant in the room: mental illness.

Participants will receive materials with statistics on mental illness in America, information on the organization, and how advocates can help change the mental health system. Participants are encouraged to take photos of the elephant and post to social media with the hashtags #ElephantAtFirstFriday and #Act4MentalHealth.

This event is funded by a grant from NAMI Ohio for the Bringing Mental Illness Out of the Shadows statewide campaign. The goal of this campaign is to draw attention to the need for statewide and national mental health reform.

In addition to passing out information and snacks to the crowd, NAMI Delaware & Morrow Counties will have an information booth for attendees to learn more and interact with volunteers.
