BRIEF: Veterans arts festival Oct. 18

Oct. 04--An arts festival highlighting the works of military veterans is scheduled this month in Chapel Hill.

Free tickets are available for the Veterans Creative Arts Festival, which includes stage performances and an art show.

The Oct. 18 event will be at Memorial Hall and Gerrard Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

According to officials, it will feature a two-hour song-and-dance show and art exhibits of veteran artwork.

More than 120 veterans from across the country are participating.

The art exhibit opens at noon, followed by the stage show at 2 p.m.

The annual festival is being held in North Carolina for the first time.

The event dates to 1981 and serves to spotlight art, music, dance, drama and creative writing that is selected from local communities.
