O'Halleran visits veteran memorial in Coolidge

Arizona City Independent - 2/15/2017

COOLIDGE - Rep. Tom O'Halleran, D-Sedona, visited Coolidge on Sunday to pay his respects to the veteran wall erected at the Artisan Village of Coolidge, and to hear concerns over the treatment of veterans.

The wall is made up of bricks containing the name of those from around the area who have served in the military. It was constructed by Coolidge resident Oscar Rodriguez in his front yard, until it was moved to the village back in March.

Elected officials have made it a point to visit the wall when they are in Coolidge. O'Halleran's predecessor, Ann Kirkpatrick, paid her respects when she stopped at the wall in 2013, back when it was in Rodriguez's yard. Sen. John McCain stopped by the wall in October.

Coolidge Mayor Jon Thompson, who greeted O'Halleran at the wall, said the congressman took in the concerns of citizens about the future of veteran care.

"It was a worthwhile event and I believe the congressman has a sincere desire to help make life better for past and future military personnel," Thompson said in a Facebook post. "I want to thank Congressman O'Halleran for coming to visit with the citizens of Coolidge on a Sunday."

O'Halleran represents Congressional District 1, which includes most of Pinal County.
