Motorcyclist ride to support veterans, military families

Daily Item - 8/13/2017

Aug. 13--NEW BERLIN -- The New Berlin American Legion Riders led more than 40 motorcycles on a nearly 90-mile ride Saturday in order to help raise money for Total Outdoors.

Total Outdoors, of Weikert, Union County, is a nonprofit group dedicated to supporting military families and Veterans for their service and sacrifice, according to the organization's website.

Bruce Fisher, president of Total Outdoors, said he was thrilled the New Berlin American Legion Riders picked the group to raise money for.

"It is great," he said. "We met some people from here last year and I guess we left an impression."

One of the people Fisher met was Marty Russell, of the New Berlin American Legion Riders.

"I went and I thought it was a great group," Russell said. "They have some world-class fisherman there and they teach so many different things. It is a great group to raise money for."

Ann Russell, of the American Legion, agreed with her husband and said she was thrilled to be helping out Total Outdoors.

"We are very happy to be supporting them here today," she said. "It is a great group and we wanted to get together and help them out."

Outside the legion sat more the motorcycles which were all set to take the 90 miles trip from New Berlin to Mifflintown, to McClure and ending in Weikert.

Total Outdoors provides the opportunity to learn the art of angling and puts on emphasis on environmental stewardship and resource conservation, according to the website.

"It is a great day and we are very thankful to the American Legion for helping us out," Fisher said.

"We appreciate all they are doing."
