Milpitas: Annual veterans car show rolls into town Oct. 14

San Jose Mercury News - 10/6/2017

Oct. 06--Milpitas Veterans Commission's Fifth Annual Car Show, complete with displays of classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, motorcycles and more, takes place at Milpitas Civic Center Plaza on Oct. 14.

The free public event is organized annually to benefit local U.S. military veterans.

Arthur Ebright, veterans commission chairman, said the event will have food provided by the Boy Scout Troop 92 as well as music and raffles throughout the day.

"We've opted for the Scouts to sell hotdogs and nachos," Ebright said.

For vintage car owners who like to show off their rides, the event is award-based including trophies for 14 categories such as best in show, best muscle car, best antique, best import and a kids choice award.

The awards presentation will happen at 3 p.m.

Ebright said this car show averages approximately 75 to 80 car entries. The cost to enter the show is $30 per vehicle.

Event sponsors include Dave & Buster's restaurant and collision repair business Service King, among others.

"It looks like we have 20 different sponsors," Ebright said.

Besides cars, there will be a kid's area with bounce houses and music played throughout the event by DJ Raymix.

As in years past, the Milpitas Veterans Commission will decide at its December meeting which veteran recipients to recommend for city council final approval.

According to Ebright, the commission typically raises $3,000 for these groups. In the past, organizations that have received $1,000 checks each from this event included the Semper Fi Fund, which aids wounded Marines; the Chaplain Service of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, which supports the spiritual needs and concerns of veterans; and Family Supportive Housing homeless shelter in San Jose, with an identified population of indigent military veterans.

The car show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.Oct. 14 next to city hall at 455 E. Calaveras Blvd. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. on the day of the show. The event will be held rain or shine.
