---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype of a robotic arm prosthesis with tactile sensors for use by individuals with paralysis, amputation, or mobility disabilities. Researchers at Georgia Tech are developing a new technology that allows an individual with quadriplegia to use a robot to perform tasks such as pulling a blanket over themselves and grabbing a cloth to wipe their face. This robotic arm prosthesis is unique as it was created with tactile sensing material across its entire length. Coupled with new software that integrates the tactile sensory data, the robotic arm can navigate around clutter, understand what is hard and soft, and help its user push, pull, and grip in a more automatic, intuitive way.
